I can't believe it's been a month!

I love a cigarette first thing in the morning.
I love a cigarette after my first cup of coffee.
I love a cigarette...
You get the idea I like my cigarettes.
Like most of my fellow smokers I started smoking cigarettes when I was teenager.
Very few people take up smoking after the age of 21.
Let's face it, you know better by then.
I knew better, I just didn't care.
For the past year or so I have been contemplating quitting.
I have had a couple half hearted cold turkey attempts and tried nicotine gum.
I would chew the gum, forget I was chewing nicotine gum and smoke a cigarette. So that worked well.
Last month, it was 14 degrees below zero and I was on the roof Novak's of smoking a cigarette. When I assessed the absurdity of the situation, I thought "Are you kidding me?"
So, that was that.
I quit.
I strongly believe in the power of a written goal. It is something that I often discuss with my client's.In fact when I first meet with my client we establish an I.E.P. (Individualized Employment Plan), or goals in place.
I watched Rhonda Byrne's "The Secret" for the first time about a year ago, I recommend it to my client's. In The Secret they reiterate the importance of writing down what you want. These wants become your goals.
I have been contemplating quitting smoking for about a year, and I did write down that I wanted to quit smoking.
The Secret is based on the Law of Attraction, that basically you call into your life what you want both positive and negative. That negative thoughts attract negativity and that positive thoughts attract positive things into your life.
I don't completely believe this but, I do believe that attitude is everything. I have seen this over and over again in my client's. My client's with positive attitudes, positive things happen to. My client's with negative attitudes, well...
So,in my purse I keep a notebook with these 8 steps in it, to remind myself.
8 Steps to achieving your goal.

  1. Hi, Heather! I also implement some of the principles of the law of attraction into my life. I am a big proponent of mindfulness and paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment to co-create your desires. Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday! Amy

  2. Congratulations, Heather! I think that undertaking the same kind of life goal and sticking to it in the same way that you teach your clients will be useful to your career, and will help you grow personally. Best of luck with staying a quitter!
